Texture & Level 5 Finishing

Texture is where drywall repairs succeed or fail in the eye of the beholder. A structurally perfect patch with the wrong texture still looks like a patch — and in Frisco, where so many walls are smooth Level 5 finish under big windows and strong North Texas sun, “close enough” isn’t. We’re texture-matching and smooth-finish specialists: repairs that disappear, additions that blend, and Level 5 work done to the model-home standard Frisco buyers expect.

Frisco’s Finish Landscape

Walk Frisco’s neighborhoods and you can read the construction eras in the walls:

  • Smooth / Level 5 — the standard in the city’s newer luxury builds from the last decade. Skim-coated, sanded flat, unforgiving of any flaw, especially under the raking light through two-story window walls.
  • Light orange peel — the sprayed standard in most 2000s-2010s production builds across Collin County.
  • Knockdown — the mottled, hand-flattened texture in slightly older stock and some current mid-market builds.
  • Popcorn — rare here, mostly in the earliest 1990s subdivisions; usually a removal job rather than a match.

Each demands a different repair strategy, and the first step of any job is correctly identifying what’s on your walls — because spraying orange peel over a wall that was actually knockdown is how “repaired” walls end up looking worse than damaged ones.

Level 5 Smooth: The Hard Standard

Smooth finish is the most demanding work in the trade. There’s no texture to hide behind: every taping knife line, every sanding scratch, every compound-sheen difference reads clearly once paint goes on — and Frisco’s sunlight is a merciless inspector. Our Level 5 process:

  1. Skim-coat the full surface — not just the repair zone, when the situation calls for it
  2. Sand under bright raking light — the same light that will expose flaws in real life
  3. Prime for uniform sheen — fresh compound and aged paint absorb differently; priming equalizes them so the finish reads as one wall
  4. Final check under the room’s actual lighting — because that’s the light you live in

This is the standard for our repairs in smooth-finish homes, whether it’s a media-room TV repair or a rebuilt wall after plumbing work.

Matching Spray and Hand Textures

For orange peel and knockdown homes, matching is about pattern density, droplet size, application distance, and flattening pressure — then feathering the transition wide so there’s no boundary line where new texture meets old. We spray test patterns before touching your wall, adjust until the match is right, and blend edges so the repair area can’t be found without being told where it is.

One honest caveat we give every client: on sun-faded or aged walls, a freshly finished patch sometimes reads very slightly different for a few months until the surrounding finish equalizes. If perfect uniformity matters most, we’ll quote re-texturing the entire wall — and tell you plainly when that’s worth it and when it isn’t.

Where Finishing Work Matters Most in Frisco

  • New-construction blending — additions and remodeled spaces meeting original drywall at clean lines
  • Post-repair finishes — after water damage or structural work, getting the surface back to invisible
  • Downgrading DIY damage — fixing the shiny spackle blobs and wrong-texture patches from well-intentioned attempts
  • Upgrade to smooth — removing orange peel or knockdown from key rooms (primary suites, dining rooms) for the clean modern look, one of our most requested jobs in the city’s established neighborhoods
  • Pre-sale finishing — Frisco homes sell against stiff competition; photo-ready walls matter
